Tuesday the 17th of October 2017,
It was a pleasure to meet again, in Montréal, Marilisa Allegrini, CEO of Allegrini wines.
I had the pleasure to meet for the first time Ms Allegrini in Verona in 2015 at Vinitaly Opera Wines but, what I remember most was the superb evening for its quality, inventivity and touch of class that followed the wine event. The evening was held in her Villla Della Torre family property in the middle of the vines of Valpolicella. Don’t get me wrong, Italians are no slouches when it comes to deliver first class hospitality. But at Allegrini, my butler heart got its fill of how well organised the ballet of service was, how well thought of the details as per the decoration, the staff attitude, the quality of the food and the wine pairings were. Plus, there was a theme that got developed that night around the family vision of what they want to contribute in the wine world designed to inform and entertain the guests that was at once unique, creative, highly original, whimsical, and elegant.
And Allegrini wines? Guess what, they are good.
A case in point, last March I attended a brunellos tasting organised by the Italian Trade Commission here in Montréal, Canada.
My conclusion about a sample were: “le vin est léger mais très fin et élégant” (tr.: the wine is light, but shows finesse and elegance); it referred to a San Polo 2012. I emailed this note plus a picture I took with my phone to the local agent of the winery (see below).
I discovered today that Allegrini owns this vineyard… and takes care of it according to the organic certification protocol. Besides, I did not know that Allegrini ventured out of its region to buy wineries.
So, there you have it.
In parting, please have a look at the cover of the Wine Spectator, March 2017 edition. Marilisa Allegrini graces the cover of the American magazine, apparently it was the first time a lady CEO of a winery found its way on the WS Cover.
But, if I may add, it won’t be the last time either. Being an ambassador for Italian wines since 2015, I get to go frequently to Italy invited by the wine trade of different regions and can’t help to notice the numerous Donna del Vino that produces fine wines in this beautiful country.
In Vino Veritas!
