Chiaretto,
Chia-ret-to,
Say it out loud!
Key-are-et-to!,
Now say it out louder!!
Chia-ret-to!!!
Aaah, both of us are singing from the same hymn book now.
This is a call to arm yourself with a glass of chiaretto from the Italian Bardolino region.
Chiaretto is another way to say: “We want it crisp, dry and preferably outside…”
Summer is short in Canada and sometimes it is so hot, yes even here… (with the humidity factor) that there is no time for complicated things or clever pairings (brains have melted); if you are still able to mutter the word “chiaretto” you are covered handsomely. (Pretty in pink, kind of thing).
With what then? Well a picture is worth a thousand words:

A glass of chiaretto will make you think of la Dolce Vita (Garda Lake style).

Yes, this picture (could almost have come from the same period); I have taken it last year during a Press trip and the feel of it will transport you to a beautiful sunset by Garda lake, like this one, that I took from my phone at the end of September. Click on the picture to see 45 sec. of lovely views from the Bardolino region at sunset.

It was great to taste chiarettos. Name like Villa Calicantus, La Rosa, Poggio delle Grazie, Tenuta La Presa, Silvio Piona et al. are dancing in my head.
The only thing that I remember now is that, with a glass of chiaretto an urge to chill took over and everything seemed to slow down at once.
